ATIRA launches incubation center for innovative composite products

Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association known as ATIRA is one of the largest association for textile research & allied industries in India. ATIRA had received a grant of around Rs 3.42 crore for the incubation centre from the Union ministry of textiles. The incubation centre is partly sponsored by the Union ministry of textiles to promote technical textiles. The incubation center will be instrumental in developing various textiles prepared from composite materials including aramid yarns, carbon, glass and among others.

The incubation center is the first of its kind to be launched in India. The incubation center encompass state-of-the-art machineries from Switzerland and Germany to develop various high quality fabrics prepared from composite materials.

ATIRA will provide guidance, necessary expertise, testing facility, technical support, and resources to research students and entrepreneurs as part of the initiative which can also be helpful to research students and entrepreneurs depending on their requirements. The incubation center offers high quality and reliable services for calibration, support, testing, certification for product development through sponsored and grant-in-aid R&D, collaborative and cooperative.

Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association – ATIRA has collaborated with various institutes including Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII); iCreate (technology business incubation centre) along with Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) of Gujarat government, and National Institute of Design (NID) to rope in entrepreneurs and research students. Their idea is to encourage entrepreneurship in the field of technical textiles.

The Composites have an extensive range of applications such as construction material including pre-fabricated walls, doors, aerospace parts, furniture, household items, and mass transportation. said, RM Sankar, principal scientific officer, ATIRA.

Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association – ATIRA was recognized by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

ATIRA Objectives: To help the Indian Textile and Allied Industries, Especially Membership Organisations to become Internationally Competitive.

Membership and Funding: ATIRA has 146 member units in both India and abroad and membership is voluntary. Of these 97 units are Ginning, Spinning, Weaving, Process Houses, and Composite Textile Units and 53 are manufacturers of fibres, dyes, chemicals, instruments, equipment and machinery.
