L.D.College of Engineering ( Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering (LDCE or LD) ) was established in the year 1948 by Sheth Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai and is named after his father, start with generous donation of Rs. 25 lacs and 31.2 hectares of land and with 75 students for undergraduate programs, At present L D Engineering College runs 14 undergraduate, 17-post graduate and 4 part-time programs. The institute made a modest start with 75 students for post graduate programs in 1954. it is affiliated to Gujarat University and administrated by Department of Technical education, Gujarat State. It was the first engineering college to be set up in Gujarat. It is a premier engineering college in Gujarat State set with the objectives of imparting higher education in various fields of engineering. It is situated adjacent to Gujarat University and at nucleus of various national level institutes like PRL, ATIRA, ISRO, IIM etc.
The institute has well equipped infrastructure spread over an area of 64,565 sq.m includes offices, Canteen, Gymkhana, Student Stores, hostel facilities to provide accommodation to 787 students, library with 73,000 technical books and about 173 periodicals and various department, Each department has modern, fully equipped laboratories for U.G. and P.G. programmes. It has fully equipped workshop to cater to acquainting the students with basic operation of manufacturing and production, Each department has its own computer center with latest developed system. The institute also maintains the training and placement cell to help students prepare for the job search.
